Located approximately 30km north of Melbourne’s CBD, this refreshing new Aged Care Facility consists of 148 beds over two levels, with an on grade car park.
Thextonsmith was commissioned late 2014 to undertake full Architectural Services, including Interior Design, with occupation taking place in early 2018.
The site is located adjacent to Edgars Creek wetlands and walking track, providing unobstructed views to the west over the wetlands, and outlook to the north and east. Resident rooms and living areas are thoughtfully located to best take advantage of these views.
Large 10m and 11m wide courtyards are also provided, providing shelter from the predominant westerly winds and creating a bright, warm and friendly outdoor environment for residents.
The dynamic exterior sets the facility apart, and was inspired by the site’s opposing boundary lines, which create intriguing angles that have been visualised and replicated throughout the project.
This unique interpretation can be seen in patterned precast panels to the lift and stair shafts, internally in the feature lighting strips, and most notably, the striking form of Level 1 as it cantilevers over the ground level service wing.
Thextonsmith worked closely with the client, contractor and consultant team to deliver this project in a construction period of approximately 17 months.
